| They call me Tipper. I live with my fiance, Matthew, a basset hound named Sophie, two cats (a loveable gray tabby named Emma, and a very enthusiastic and noisy gray boy named Reggie), and a lovebird. Though I live in the big city, I'm a small-town girl at heart. After more years that I care to admit, I obtained a B.A. in writing from Metropolitan State University. My focus has been on editing and technical writing, although I not-so-secretly desire to be the next Judy Blume. I dream of being an editor at Interweave Press.
I'm a domestic goddess and proud of it. I love to cook and bake,
especially when I'm going to be feeding a lot of people. I enjoy crafts
(mostly knitting, but also sewing and
pysanky -
click here for an example of my work). Creating a warm,
comfortable, inviting (help! I'm channeling HGTV!) home is extremely
important to me, as are family and friends and furry creatures. And,
goodness, I'm starting to enjoy cleaning.

| My mom taught me how to do a loop cast on and the
knit stitch when I was about 11. She had a wicker basket full of
yarn and needles and I stole some ivory colored yarn for my own. I
made some very poor garter-stitch tubes for my Barbies to wear, and
set knitting aside for quite some time. I got the urge to try again,
out of the blue, about four years ago; that was quickly abandoned as
well. For some reason, I decided to buy Knitting for Dummies
with a Borders gift card I received for my birthday last year, and
I've been in love ever since. The third time's the charm! It's
safe to say I'm obsessed. Isn't that the only way to be?
Lace knitting is definitely my favorite type of knitting at this
point, though I never seem to get started on the lace shawls I have
planned. I would love to start doing fair isles (my Norwegian blood
screams for them!), but I'm more drawn towards smaller projects for
the time being.
Knitting blogs and the
Knitting
Community on Livejournal have been fabulous sources of
inspiration and information for me. The main purpose of this blog
and website is to do the same.
I'm a proud member of the Minnesota Knitters' Guild (and I highly recommend checking out Yarnzilla). |
| My religion is in the everyday. I try to consider these three things:
1 - Balance. Everything is about balance. There will always
need to be bad to balance the good, and vice-versa. The whole
Universe is constantly struggling to maintain balance, and the
individuals within it should as well.
2 - Interconnectedness. Everything is interrelated.
Everything has its place and nothing is unimportant. Even
insignificance can be significant.
3 - Awareness. The most important, all-encompassing
practice I practice is awareness. Pay attention to yourself, others,
and the world around you. Notice the little things, not just the big
things; take it all in and try to make sense of it all. Keep in
touch.
My spirituality is in flux recently. I feel like I've lapsed in feeling anything towards spirituality or religion, but at the same time, feel drawn to it. Time will tell just where I'll end up. |
I'm a conservative-leaning moderate more interested in cutting through rhetoric than adhering to any sort of party line. I have a lot of faith in the American Way and our government, as well as in people in general. I do not care what your politics are as long as you're respectful of differences; hypocrisy is rampant.
For awhile, I wrote a column for The Metropolitan, the student newspaper of Metropolitan State University. My goal, above all else, is to demonstrate that not all people who lean right are stupid and/or brainwashed gay-hating religious fanatics. |
