It could be better. First item on the agenda: HAPPY BIRTHDAY, AMERICA.
Now that that's out of the way, I can talk about my weekend. I had four days off. Let's see what I accomplished:
A big fat nothing!
Things just aren't going well. Examples include:
I was planning to make a glaring orange top to wear to my wedding reception, since I have crazy orange shoes I'll be wearing. Also, the top half is the same as what I'll put on my wedding dress, so I wanted a little practice, etc. The fabric I bought was FABRIC FROM HELL. I could barely sew it and kept screwing everything up. I cannot tell you how many times I ripped out seams (at times because the machine was acting up). I gave up when I sewed the front to the back backwards. I started on another dress, which I alluded to in last Sunday's post. I bought more lining and plodded on, only to discover that due to my apparently long torso and sizable bosom, the waist was going to be about four inches shorter than it should be. Of course, I did not have sufficient fabric to make up for it (although more has been purchased since). My plan, which I have begun to execute, is to put on a waistband. The seams will be covered with a bit of trim that perfectly matches the shrug I plan to wear with the dress. All was going well until... My machine is messed up once again, doing something I haven't seen done before. The stitches on top look as if the tension is too tight (it can't be, since it is on and is always on zero), and the bottom stitches zigzag back and forth. Nothing was changed to make this happen - it happened out of the blue - and nothing seems to fix it. (If anyone has any idea what's wrong, please chime in, since the internets are sorely lacking in anything relating to troubleshooting a sewing machine). My one major accomplishment over four days has been to make one sleeve of the Flame Stitch (not Pitch!) Cardigan. I think my gauge is about on. I'm using Cotton Ease in eye-searing white, and I'm not sure if I like it or not. I took a picture, but, of course, somehow lost it between taking it and downloading it to my computer. This is certainly a pattern that requires a bit of brain power.
As an antidote for all of this crap, I offer a photo of an almost-finished object. I still need to hem it and give it a final wash, but it's otherwise complete.
