Ohhh... I hope Interweave Knits gets my subscription payment and sends me the winter issue ASAP. I need to get my hands on this!

That's Annie Modesitt's Morris Fern, which blew me away the moment I saw a swatch months ago. It will be the first offering on the special subscribers-only section of the IK website. I've heard that that area is really spectacular, so maybe y'all should get a subscription and check it out! If you look closely, you can find subscription cards for $20 for a year instead of $24. Very worth it.

Ms. Modesitt is one of my favorite designers. Everything she does blows me away because it's just so different. Anything that combines interesting construction with items that actually look good and fabulous colors has my heart.

Alas, I have an FO to share!

This is four balls of Lana Grossa Inserto knit on 11's in brioche stitch. It was SO fast and satisfying to knit and is nice and warm. It's my very first project utilizing fringe; can you believe that? I'm in love with the stitch pattern and I might marry it.

I would also like to share something else I started yesterday:

I picked up a skein of Koigu Kersti and a ball of Rowan Kidsilk Haze. I'm knitting them together in... you guessed it!... brioche stitch on size 8's. The Kidsilk Haze is incredible; it's turning merino wool into angora. *drool*

Also last night, I started The Project That Shall Not Be Named. Oh, tis glorious! I can't wait to be finished so I can share the finished result. It's a gift, though, so it needs to be kept under wraps.

Today I knit in the car while waiting at stop lights. Why didn't I think of this before?

I haven't been knitting tonight (aside from finishing up a chunky wrap), but I've been working on the website.

My gallery page is now up, as well as a bit of biographical info about yours truly.

Forgive me for not posting lately, y'all. I've been feeling pretty crappy.

I have, however, been knitting. I often forget how much it helps.

It's FO MANIA!

In three days, I've finished three things, and that may be a record for yours truly. In fact, it is a record. Let's celebrate with champagne and pictures.

Mark's scarf was finished on Monday night, just in time for his trip to Alaska. The poor boy's never had a scarf before! Can you imagine? I knitted lots of love and happy thoughts into it, so I hope it serves him well. It only took a skein and a half of Lamb's Pride, far below my estimation of three and even farther below his "Oh, let's get four just in case you run out." Someone's getting a hat or two!

My friend Heather sent me a few mix CDs in the mail. I promised her something knitted in return, so she gets these. It takes about three hours to make each one, maybe less if you're not easily distracted like I am. I modified the Glampyre's pattern from Knitty (postmodern legwarmers), and used the yummy, tasty Merino Frappe.

My aunt will have this scarf bestowed upon her come Yuletide. I started it last night and finished just a little while ago. It went deliciously quick! I used about a skein and a half of the Berroco Optik I posted a picture of below. I did a little drop-stitching (which is damn fun) between alternating sets of 8 and 4 humps of garter stitch. It's very ethnic-looking, je pense. I betcha it'd cost $90 at Pier One!

Speaking of Merino Frappe... I bought enough to make a sweater. It was destined, actually - I thought they only had five more balls, yet another was hiding below its brothers and sisters. I was doubly bad and bought additional yarn, as well - Plymouth Le Fibre Nobili Papillon in color 452. Blues and reds and purples with SPARKLES! - wheeeee! It shall be a scarf for my OTHER aunt. It shouldn't take me long, as it's big, fat yarn.

It sure feels good to accomplish something other than make my pocketbook a bit lighter.

Not much knitting, but lots of new yarn!

I know, I know. I wasn't supposed to buy yarn. However, the most expensive yarn below was paid for two months ago, the green scarf was yarn I didn't pay for, the orange/red stripy scarf is stash yarn (can you believe it?!), and the other stuff that I got today was under $40 because with another full Needlwork Unlimited punch card. So, there. It's not so bad.

Do knitters learn this sort of rationalization or is it inborn?

First of all... a large amount of Colinette that I got today from o'er the sea. It's an Absolutely Fabulous kit from eBay, colorway "Cornucopia".

You have my permission to be jealous.

Next, a scarf I'm making for my friend Mark. He's going to Alaska on Tuesday and needs it by then. It's tremendously easy and fast and if I can get myself to sit still for a few minutes, I'll have it done in no time. I'm using Brown Sheep's Lamb's Pride in "Christmas Green". I'm making up the pattern as I go along and am a bit over halfway done.

This little beauty I knit up in 2 hours a couple of Saturdays ago. Two balls of Gedifra Mambo, size 13 needles, 7 stitches across. It's stretching a little, but it's still wonderful.

Sometimes I like to take naps with it on.

Here's the yarn I nabbed today. I found some Merino Frappe that I've been dying to try for $1.25 off a ball, so I grabbed some to make a pair of legwarmers for a friend. You can't really tell, but it's a very interesting red-and-purple combination. It glows! Next in line is some Lana Grossa Inserto. Needlework Unlimited had this great wrap on display made with three balls of this. It's done in brioche stitch and has a tiny bit of fringe around three edges. It's so cozy and was pretty cheap, only $8 a ball. It'll be a nice, fast thing for me to knit when I need instant gratification. Finally, Berroco Optik in "Rembrant Mix". I'll be making a scarf for my aunt for Yule with this. It's very interesting yarn!

I want to hug them and love them and name them George.

And tonight we knit! I have a deadline!

Whew! Long time no post.

I don't have any pictures because there hasn't been much progress. I've only allowed myself one yarn purchase lately (the laceweight stuff below, which is so yummy); we all know that it's easier to knit when you're actively buying lots of yarn! I've been really busy, too - social butterfly I be. Tired I am. AND I work normal-people hours now (and more of them), which cuts into knitting time.

Enough excuses! This is what I HAVE been doing:
  • the cable cardigan left front is at the point where I can start shaping - finally! It goes quickly when I work on it, but I had a little lull as it didn't seem to be going anywhere.
  • I started the second half of the ma-in-law vest and got a few inches of it done. It's going much more quickly and easily and prettily this time around.
  • I started and finished a nice floofy scarf for myself last Saturday. It took two hours and it's probably one of my favorite things I've ever made. Two skeins of Gedifra Mambo (I loved it from the moment I set eyes on it and found two balls on clearance after waiting long enough), 7 stiches on size 13 needles, and two hours of garter stitch got me a nice autumnal/firey narrowly striped scarf. Yay! I've been wearing it nearly nonstop ever since. I'd sleep with it on (well, I DID take a nap with it on) if I didn't think I'd strangle myself.
  • I'm making a seaman's scarf for a friend's trip to Alaska. I figure that will be a nice choice because it a) won't take as long as a regular scarf, b) won't take up as much bulk in luggage or to carry around, and c) will be quite comfortable to wear. I picked out an alternating lace pattern (basically, four rows of plain lace, then four rows shifted over, all repeated) - it'll be very manly - and am pretty much making it all up as I go along. I originally wanted to do something a little fancier, but this will be a better choice, I think. I only have 10 days to do it in, after all.
  • I haven't started anything else new, but I have about a billion ideas in my head, mostly for my own patterns.

    Happy knittin'!
