So, I started the neck for Rogue for the third time and I'm nearly finished. It's better than last time, but not perfect by far. Am I going to rip it out and start again? No way in hell. My problem is that I have holes all over. There are so many increases in that little tiny space it's extremely difficult to keep things in line. Instead of ripping out, I'm going to do some tweaking while I'm blocking, even if it means sewing shut the bastards.
How do people make perfect cables? Cable perfection is beyond me, it seems.
So is spinning perfection. Prudence's awesome handspun yarn inspired me to dig out my drop spindle and some of the beautiful fiber I got from Fiber Factory while in Mesa in November. I started spinning this earlier, but it required more concentration than I wanted to give it at the time so I set it aside. I've made a little more progress. Key word: little. It's extremely slippery, "tender" stuff that gives way really unexpectedly and can barely hold its twist. Is the mohair content to blame? I don't even remember what it's made out of - Lola dog got to the package and ripped up the label and fibers.
Wait. This is what I have a blog for.
*goes back to check*
It's merino and mohair.
I have uttered many a "sonuvabitch"es and made much noise with my dropped-on-the-floor spindle. I need a wheel. *sob*
In case anyone is wondering, no job for me, though I was a strong candidate, they said. Like that makes me feel better. In light of this news, I have decided to forgo searching for full-time employment and instead go further into debt with my student loans. This way I can spend my time on schoolwork (I have about three semesters left, which will be paid for by a federal dislocated worker program) and on internships and such, making me a better candidate for a CAREER job in the end. I hope.

Ah, yes. Rogue. You are a harsh mistress. I did many rows of your straight-knit stockinette back only to find that I made a large mistake. I ripped, knit again. I took up the needles to finish the front and, lo! I messed up once. Ripped. Messed up twice (after much strenous knitting). Ripped. And now I start on the third attempt. Shall it be a charm?
The neck cable is driving me batty. The left side of it looked okay, but the right side looked 'orrible, so I'm a-startin' over. I will accept nothing less than near-perfection.
In other news, I have started an Eros scarf. How do people regularily knit with this stuff?
Any Minneapolis/St. Paul area knitters: for the time being (i.e. until the buses stop striking and/or I get a car), we will be meeting at Acadia Cafe at Franklin and Nicollet. 7pm Tuesdays.

No digital camera = no digital pictures = pretty boring blog. My apologies. When I have a job (*please* let me get this job...) one of my first purchases will be a digital camera.
Tonight = getting out to knit with the girls for the first time in several weeks! Yay!
Rogue = I've split the front and back and have gotten about two inches of the back finished. I hate doing stockinette on straight needles. It's all looking damn good so far.

I found the perfect yarn for my new Rogue: Valley Yarns 100% Merino in "golden tweed". Excellent price, excellent yarn. It looks like it'd be scratchy and it is a little stiff to the touch, but I bet once it's washed it will be beautiful. The cables of Rogue are now popping like they've never popped before and everything's just right. I got it yesterday and wound three balls off of one cone and dug in right away. This time I decided to forgo the "turning round" because although it made the hem turn in really easily, it looked kind of idiotic.
I also bought a ball of Eros Glitz because I decided I need an Eros scarf. If I make one, it will stop haunting me.
In addition to the nightmare I had about growing another chin, last night/this morning I had a dream that I won the sweater kit contest at Berroco. Unfortunately, they don't let you pick the sweater that I picked out...
No Knitting Night for me last week, and probably not this week, either. The bus drivers are on strike, leaving me utterly transportationless.
I have made a lot of progress on the boyfriend's second sock, thanks to the introduction of cable to my humble abode. I find that I don't get nearly enough knitting done unless I have a television to watch.
I've got a job interview on Monday for a position I'd very much like to be offered. Any good vibes you could send out would be much appreciated. I really need a job.

Rogue was started almost as soon as my Cascade 220 arrived at my door. But, like I suspected, it's doomed. I had heard reports that Cascade 220 wasn't a good choice (after I had ordered, of course), and, really, it's not. I need something a little stiffer and with a little more texture. My cables are okay, but the yarn is just too sleek and polished for tight cables. I guess I'll be making a green top-down v-neck raglan with this yarn. I really need to make Rogue because it's an excellent pattern and the cables are so fun. I'd really like to use Jo Sharp Silk Road Aran Tweed, but I really can't afford that right now. I might end up using Bartlett Yarn of some sort, even though I won't be able to wear it next to my skin like I was hoping.
I cast on for the Koigu Alligator Shawl that has been laying in wait for several months. After I knit a row, I realized, "Hey, this is going to bore the hell out of me." I think a better use for this would be the Charlotte's Web shawl. Although I prefer rectangular ones, I also need something that will keep me interested.
I'd really love to make something out of Silky Wool. Someday...!
Knitting tonight with the girls was a good time, though my caffeine wore off too soon. I worked on Rogue until I realized I'd never be happy with it and put another inch or so on the boyfriend's second sock.
