Daily fiber therapy - the confessions of a knitting geek.

Knitting: I'm actually doing some. It's a small little design all my own, and maybe I'll try to get it published. I hope it turns out.

Spinning: Not yet, unfortunately! It's only been a week since my wheel was shipped, although it feels like a year. I did buy a bit of fiber on eBay today, a bold white silk/purple and black wool blend.

Politics: I'm immersed in them lately. Check out Knitters For Bush. Contribute your stories and links. It'll be fabulous.

For the record, whether or not someone agrees with me politically doesn't matter. What does matter is whether or not they can treat other opinions with respect and think critically about what they're hearing, from any source.

Shopping: Amazing Threads in Osseo, Minnesota (soon moving to Maple Grove) is having a sale this weekend. Hallelujah! I've been waiting anxiously ever since I got a postcard in the mail (which also entitles me to enter in their drawings... wish me luck!). I hope their Bamboo yarn is on sale; I was eyeing it before but couldn't bring myself to buy it, especially since I had stash to liquidate.

Selling: I think that almost all of my transactions from eBay and the private sale have been completed. Whew! I tell ya - selling through your own website is a lot more efficient than going through eBay, and a hell of a lot cheaper. Although I had to pay PayPal fees, at least I didn't have to pay auction fees on top of them. Providing free shipping, although sometimes not-so-good (as can be seen in the example of the linen fabric I sold for $15 and it cost me $11 to ship), certainly made things a lot easier. I can't imagine having to weigh packages or even make educated guesses about how much things would cost to ship.

So, the Knitty Surprise #1.

I dig the idea, but why would I want to wear a muppet around my boobs? Strange choice of yarn, says I.

I finished a sock! Casting off using size 3's was necessary for a top that didn't cut off circulation.

'Til next time,
She of the Fat Calves

To report today:
  • I'm almost done with the very exciting sock posted in my last entry. I'm amazed at how much sock I'm getting out of one ball of Regia. I did it toe-up so I could use the entire ball, and I'm having to do increases and whatnot to accomodate my calves. That's one large sock.
  • I bought a spinning wheel. I'm hoping it will be here in not-too-long.
  • I'm selling off some of my stuff, including some yarn and LOTS of fabric. It's good fabric, too. I hope to add more yarn to the listings within the next couple of days. I want to get rid of at least half of what I have stashed.
  • Another local yarn store added to my list: Coldwater Collaborative in Excelsior, Minnesota. Someone on the LJ Knitting community posted about a sale they were having, so I felt it necessary to visit. I ended up with ivory, green, and orange Stone Cotton (20% off) to make MJ's hat from Spiderman 2; I'm coming up with the pattern myself, after some prompting from someone in LJ Knitting. I also got a little roll of something by Cascade that's meant to be a carry-along yarn but they had a great little scarf made out of it (not on sale, but only $6.80), as well as two more balls of Crystal Palace Merino Frappe for $2.10 each, and one little, lonely skein of Berocco Linet in a pretty light purple. It was $1.70 and needed a home. It's a great shop, by the way, full of a ton of fabulous yarn (including a lot of standards), and quite a few yarns I hadn't seen before. The prices are reasonable, too.

I hope that the arrival of my wheel will bring with it much more excitement in the blog.

The most exciting knitting picture of all time:

    (Don't say I didn't warn you.)

It sends chills up your spine, no?

This is what I'm knitting. (It's my first toe-up sock.) I'm relishing the lack of complexity. It gives me lots of time to daydream about spinning wheels.

    Houston, we have yarn.

I have spent many hours of my life creating this:

These pictures were taken before I set the twist, but it's not much different now.

Call me crazy, but I think it was worth it. However, I'm not about to spin the rest of the seemingly billions of ounces I have left on drop spindles. No, sir. I want a spinning wheel, this I have determined for sure. Yes, it was a nice adventure, and relaxing, and fun, but I've got too much fiber and I'd like it to be consistent.

The resulting yarn is extremely light and extremely soft. While plying, I didn't much care for the colors I was getting spun together, but in a skein it looks quite pleasant. I think it would be neat to find a coordinating, solid fiber, spin that, and ply this with it. Then again, it might be strange.

What'll I do with this? I think I'll do a lacy scarf with beads, likely just toward the ends. I'm going to play up the zaniness with some bright, shiny baubles.

In other news, I'm just past the splitting part of Vicky and am just starting the lace of the Wings wrap (and I think I messed up already... blech).

If anyone has spinning blogs to suggest, please do so. I'm finding them more interesting and inspiring than knitting blogs lately (maybe because everyone's in summertime-clothes-mode and I just can never seem to get going in that vein).

The new Knitty makes me happy. Someone said in LJ Knitting that this is an issue full of what we expect from Knitty - clever, non-mainstream patterns that look at knitting from a different angle.

For the first time ever, I cast on for a Knitty project right away: Vicky. I'm using some black Softwist Bulky I had sitting around. My only concern is, as usual, the size of my bosoms. They need support, and lots of it. If creative, hidden ways fail to keep them perky in this corset, I'm not opposed to adding straps of some sort. This is something I want to wear in public!

I'm very happy to see that the idea I came up with for Knitty - not that I submitted it, knit it up, or even spoke of it - wasn't in the issue, as that means that it's unlikely someone else thought of it. Maybe sometime when I'm bored I'll knit it up and speak of it after all.
